TRAVEL GUIDES

Self-drive and tuk-tuk guide

Before choosing a self-drive car or tuk-tuk, confirm the driving permission, insurance and vehicle conditions that apply to you. A rental offer alone does not establish that you are authorised or insured to drive.

Verify permission for your circumstances

Check current Department of Motor Traffic guidance and the vehicle class you intend to drive. Ask the authority and rental provider about your licence, any required recognition or permit, and applicable conditions.

Read the rental agreement

Confirm named drivers, deposit, excess, mileage, fuel policy, breakdown support and exclusions. Ask specifically about the planned roads, vehicle use and any activities that might affect cover.

Inspect the vehicle

Record the condition with the provider at collection, check required equipment and understand the controls. Keep the emergency contact and agreed breakdown process accessible.

Choose a manageable route

Allow time to become comfortable with local conditions and avoid an overambitious first day. Compare self-drive with a vehicle and driver if unfamiliar roads, navigation or parking would distract from the trip.
